Below is information and biographies for art pieces from West Coast artists that we either currently have available, or that we have sold in the past. By “West Coast” we are referring to the Western States in the US including Washington, Oregon, California, and Alaska, as well as the West Coast of Canada.
Artists are organized alphabetically by last name. The artists listed represent a wide range of eras and styles. We have a passion for locating, recognizing, and preserving West Coast artist’s works in a range of eras, movements, styles, mediums and current market values. Rie Munoz (1921-2015), CA/AK

About Rie Munoz:
Although she was born and raised in California, Munoz traveled to Alaska in 1951, fell in love with Juneau, and it is said she gave herself until the boat left the next day to find a job and a place to live. Apparently did just that, as Munoz lived the rest of her life in Alaska. She traveled extensively throughout the land and her watercolors depict the small communities and native customs and traditions that she encountered. Munoz’s work is highly recognized; she has been represented throughout the US and Canada and has received numerous awards for her work.

Dan O’Halloran (1945-2016), American/WA/Canadian

About Dan O'Halloran:
A native of Seattle, WA, O’Halloran was a journalist who spent time in several Asian countries including Taiwan, China, Vietnam, and Laos. Although he never formally studied art, his unique and impressive works are symbolically oriented and rooted in the Chinese culture. He states in his biography that his works are not trying to imitate Chinese art, but rather they are a way of telling stories that originate from his own personal dreams and experiences.

About John Peer:
Peer lived throughout the West Coast, but as he stated in his biography, it was in Dana Point, CA where marina and maritime subjects became the focus of his photography work. He went on to live in Port Townsend, WA, another boating destination, for many years. He represents his maritime subjects in a very graphic and yet subtly poetic manner. Peer’s work was commissioned by resorts and maritime oriented organizations and businesses throughout the West Coast area.

About Robert Schoenfeld:
Schoenfeld is a Seattle based, Color-Field artist and a graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute. His focus is on the transcendent power of color and his art is collected by corporate and private collectors both nationally and internationally.

Herb Schraml (b. 1936), Germany/WA

About Herb Schraml:
Herb Schrami is an artist and muralist who was born in Germany and classically trained in Munich at the Academie’ of Art. In southern Bavaria, where he was from, it was traditional for buildings to have murals painted on them, and for a short time he worked on the restoration of murals in the Bavarian area. During WWII, in his early 20s, he immigrated to the US and initially settled in the south part of Puget Sound, WA. However, through a partnership with the designer Heins Ulbricht, he began to commute to Leavenworth, WA to paint murals on the then small town’s buildings. He eventually moved there and for the last 50 years has been instrumental in the “Bavarian-izing” of the town of Leavenworth, having painted well over 100 murals in this now famous and picturesque German-style mountain town.

Mark Tobey (1890-1976), WA/Switzerland

About Mark Tobey:
Mark Tobey was one of the founders of the Northwest School of art that included fellow artists Morris Graves, Guy Anderson, and Kenneth Callahan, among others. This group had a shared interest in philosophy and Eastern religions, and as he was senior in age and experience, he had a strong influence on the group. He went on to found the art department at the acclaimed Cornish School of Arts in Seattle. Tobey was mostly self-taught after early studies at the Art Institute of Chicago. He was widely traveled and converted to the Baha’i Faith after becoming familiar with it during his travels. It became an important part of his life and a large influence on his art. His densely structured compositions resemble Abstract Expressionist works, however, the motives for his compositions differ philosophically from most Abstract Expressionist painters.

Arthur Vickers (b. 1947), Canada

About Arthur Vickers:
Arthur Vickers was born in Vancouver to a mother of English and Canadian ancestry and a father of Tsimshian and Heiltsuk lineage. He grew up in the Tsimshian village of Kitkatla, where he spent much time with his grandfather, a fisherman and canoe carver. Vickers had dual careers in the building industry and as an artist. His works blend Native American and western artistic traditions in carvings, original paintings, sketches and limited-edition serigraphs.

Louise (Lou) Wilson (1927-1983), WA

About Louise (Lou) Wilson:
Lou Wilson was a prolific Mid-Century era artist who worked in a wide range of mediums including oil, watercolor, pastels, screen printing, collage, and batik. Her work was shown throughout the greater Seattle area including the Seattle Art Museum, the Frye Museum, the Henry Gallery, and the Museum of History & Industry. Her son is the actor Richard Karn of “Home Improvement” and “Family Feud” fame.

Alex Young (20th Century), WA

About Alex Young:
Alex Young is known for his commissioned artworks of the WA State ferries which were featured on Washington State Ferries annual posters for many years and are now collector’s items. In 1989 and 1993, his paintings of a salmon and duck were featured on two Washington stamps issued by the Washington State Department of Fish & Wildlife. Former Governor Booth Gardner supported Young's artwork exhibit, which traveled the state in 1989 to celebrate Washington's Centennial. Young's artwork can be seen in a number of public locations, including the Seattle Public Library, the University of Washington Medical Center, and the Marine Corps Museum in Washington, D.C.
